Just got back from a month of freshwater. Two weeks camping with Fisher and the dogs in Marble Canyon, Powell, my friend’s private lake, and the Uintas, then Silverthorne, Carbondale, and Durango with Lisa. A few weeks in Tahoe and Heber before that. I didn’t miss much besides the heat and a small hurricane. La Nina definitely seems to be the case, as the water is already in the mid-80’s. We’ll see if we still get the remnant late marlin bite like the last couple of years. They are getting lots of tuna and wahoo to the south, so hopefully we’ll see a few soon. Small Blues have been around. There is a ton of bait, decent billfish, and a ton of big debris holding hordes of small dorado. Lots of inshore fish. I think we’ll have a good mix of everything for the next few months. What I’d really like to see is the flight into Guaymas materialize in the next few weeks. You never know down here. All I know is that the water is cool and flat, the air very comfortable, and that the fish are in the water and ready to eat ballyhoo.
