Well, now I have a second fish lost to haunt my life. The first one was a 7-800# fish in Hawaii. I didn’t know too much then about drag management, but when a fish that size hits and rips off 500+ yards in a minute you have an issue. I had the drag too tight and felt terrible. This one I don’t even want to get into at the moment, but the hook pulled 70′ from the boat. It most likely was a $1M+ fish in the Bisbee. Hide the razors. This could be my last post. Caught the heck out of everything else though. Water is still warm here. Will get a report.

Close, but no cigar.
October 27, 2013Taking back the Cup!
October 16, 2013After a horrible decision by the tournament director last year, they found no way to disqualify us this year. So really victory for the last three years in the Cantina Cup. We have the invitation for the World Offshore Championship in Quepos next year. I fished on Telamon. We caught six marlin on day one and four sails and a marlin on day two. Tons of small dorad out there. Arturo caught one of 18#. Most are barely 10#. Yellowtail, bonita, sierra, and all the inshore species showing up. A few small tuna were caught on the Reef. Temps are just dropping below 80 and the water is getting a tint of green. Tons of bait out there. Who knows how long things will last. Some good 200-250# marlin out there.

Fall is here!
October 6, 2013I turned off the A/C and the NW winds are threatening cool green water. It could be a short end. For the moment though there are still good numbers of billfish. There are plenty of small dorado but not many bigger ones. Only a few reports of tuna a couple weeks ago.The inshore action is picking up. The Cantina Cup is next weekend and it should be a good one.
Tight Lines,
