March 29th – the tail are back

March 30, 2012

Well, we missed the bite a couple days along with most everyone else by going out in the morning. They had one decent morning out there, then it got pretty quiet where we only caught two keepers, and yesterday nada but a bunch of decent calicos. They got nice fish in the afternoon to 20 pounds at San Antonio. They are out right now, but I had to stay at work. A 130 pound tuna was caught in 65 degree water off Loreto. Any day now!

The fishing has been good at times. Yesterday we were 6 for 10 with a few fish in the upper teens. Tons of bait out there and the fish are getting a little boat shy. The Island has been producing at times. Today the fish were gone, but we found decent fishing for some nice calicos. I marked some good deep spots to try on a nice day. I guess that one sailor reported seeing tuna as they were crossing. I won’t get my hopes up though.

March 4th

March 4, 2012

A lot of wind this last week. I haven’t heard of any reports. Hopefully the fish that were out front and up the coast are still there and biting now. They were focused on small bait for some time, though some were getting fooled trolling and jigging. Same for the Island, though the bite has been hot at times. Some large fish. There is a ton of bait there. 15 boats showed up for the tournament. 307 pounds won for Team Telamon with the next four boats all within one fish of winning. The biggest fish was 30.5, 2nd 27.5, and third 25.4. We weighed a 36 pound fish the Thursday before. Still some good bottomfishing out there.
