March 30th report

March 30, 2011

We have been taking a lot of half-day trips. The one trip to the Island struck out, but there was one good report from yesterday of big fish caught. It should get good there soon. We had a couple killer afternoon bites in the wind, and one fish even went 20#. Most of our trips have produced good catches of medium-sized yellowtail. The seas have been very nice and the weather warm. The water got up there. We saw a few flying fish, and even a marlin and dorado were seen. Then the winds came up. We are still a few weeks away. They are getting fish to the south though, so in time. In-shore we’ve found some cabrilla and pargo showing. My friends are having fun on light tackle in close. I’m itching to get to the bass lake again.

March 16th – a great week of fishing

March 16, 2011

We’ve had a great week of fishing since last Thursday, less Sunday. At times the fish are up to 12#. All caught on lures just outside of San Antonio. Conditions have been very calm, less Monday … when it didn’t matter because they were biting like crazy.
Temps are very nice. Things look warm to the south and the reports are that dorado are around La Paz along with yellowfin. Tons of marlin down there though they aren’t biting. Looks like the wind may come up and spoil things a bit, but the warming is greater than the cooling. Things aren’t too far off!

March 12th report

March 12, 2011

The charter was a little too hung over they thought today. There’s only one way to cure a real hangover though, and that’s an all-out bite. Tim, Arturo, and I headed out just to kill some time and within two hours had them hoping out of the box and swimming in the cabin. The fish were nice 8-12# yellowtail. Time to go prep them for the smoker! Finally several days of glass calm conditions and the forecast shows the same. The temps are warming to the south. There may be marlin within a hundred miles by the end of the week. There is a lot of warming down deep to do first though. The bait is plentiful and the big yellowtail should be fatting up for the spawn here. At least winter seems to be gone.

March 4th report

March 4, 2011

Very little fishing going on here. The winds aren’t letting up at all. A few fish were caught last week off of San Antonio Point. The Island sounded slow to dead. Another boat saw some big fish reluctant to bite off of Haystack. We were about to call it quits the other day when the fish came up right in the bay. There were some large boils 2-3 acres in size. We picked up two out of three fish for the charter, with one at 27# caught in 62′ of water. We headed out a little later and picked up another two. Went back out the next day and saw nothing. Tons of bait out there though. The winds look to die down for half a day on Monday. It might be a windy month!
